The top two drawings here were done in my studio. They are completely made up and imaginary. I think they look "real." The next three are done from life in the woods near my home.
The final images are from a book I illustrated a few years ago written by Caroline Starr Rose titled "Over in the Wetlands." More on this subject later. But in brief: What influence does proximity have on the truth of the image? In so many ways, they are ALL imaginary. And our goal in Life seems to be to bridge the gap somehow in ALL our endeavors. Salut!

I forgot who told me the story or where I read it. A painter, out in a landscape, paints what and how he sees it. Then a man comes by with his son. They look at the picture and the father says to his son, totally pejorative, ugly and mean: "Pure imagination!" And then they go on and after a while another father comes with his son, they stop, look at the picture and the father says with admiration and appreciation: "Pure imagination.
