Cattails

Cattail (Typha latifolia) is an common native aquatic plant. It usually indicates a disturbed or changing ecosystem. It has many medicinal and nutritional uses. I like the patch of cattails above the dam for its linear graphic complexity. It's also a good place to watch red winged blackbirds and muskrats.

Red-winged Blackbirds

I've been observing a pair of red-winged blackbirds at the dam in the morning. They are very busy taking care of their babies. I can sit on a nearby bench and watch them come and go. I could do this for hours.
